Downtown Post Office Potential Convention Center Site

By Tom Stanton Dec 16, 2024 | 9:05 AM

The downtown Lincoln Post Office is still in the running as a site for the new convention center.  The Assemble Lincoln committee is concluding its evaluation of three sites.   The final step in the process is pending the receipt of a term sheet from the United States Postal Service regarding the potential sale of the Post Office site, one of the leading contenders for the convention center location.

“This project represents a transformative opportunity for the State of Nebraska, Lincoln, and Lancaster County,” says Kenny Zoeller, Vice Chair of Assemble Lincoln and Director
of Policy Research for Governor Pillen.  He says they have worked diligently to ensure the selected site aligns with the community and state’s long-term needs.

“Once we have the final outstanding information from the public site finalist, we will be in a position to complete our evaluation and move forward.”

Zoeller says significant progress has been made in securing key details, thanks in large part to the leadership of Governor Pillen and the ongoing engagement with USPS.  “Governor Pillen has been
instrumental in bridging the gap between state and federal entities, demonstrating his commitment to the economic growth of Lincoln and Nebraska as a whole,” Zoeller says.

Senator Eliot Bostar is Chair of the committee and says transparency has been at the heart of the process and every step has been focused on ensuring
the right decisions are made.

“The governor’s work with USPS has been instrumental in advancing this project, and we are committed to keeping the public informed as we move forward.”  The committee will issue its final recommendation as soon as the USPS term sheet is received and evaluated.
