Lincoln Boy Scouts to Collect & Recycle Christmas Trees

By Chase Porter Dec 16, 2024 | 6:00 AM

If your going with a real tree for Christmas this year, Lincoln boy scouts want it when your done with it.

Boy Scout Troop 8 is bringing back their “Scouting 4 Trees” program this year. Beginning December 26, they will be picking up live Christmas trees for free and recycling them, giving those trees a second life and preventing them from going to the land fill.

Assistant Scoutmaster Brooks Rushman tells KLIN News this is the 10th year for the program and they have picked up thousands of trees over the years.

He says you can schedule an appointment at no cost by visiting scoutingfortrees.com.

“You put in your zip code and address and we show up on the day that you pick,” says Rushman. “Most of them go to the City drop-off sites and they get chipped up for mulch that residents can load up and use for their landscapes.”

He says trees should have everything taken off of them and placed on the curb by 9 a.m.

New this year, Rushman says they will also offer residents the chance to discard and recycle unwanted Christmas lights.
