Two Omaha women are accused of trying to steal about $2,000 worth of merchandise from Dick’s Sporting Goods at 61st and ‘O’ Street in Lincoln Saturday evening. LPD Public Information Officer Erika Thomas says when officers arrived around 5:45 p.m. they detained three people.

“47-year-old Lakisha Meridy was observed holding several bags of merchandise and began attempting to conceal them under a clothing rack.”  Thomas says an officer grabbed her arm and instructed her to put her hands behind her back.

“She began pulling away and it turned into a lengthy struggle as she refused to comply with orders to stop.”   Meridy was ultimately tased and taken into custody.  Thomas says another officer got into a struggle with 25-year-old Chaan Wichar as she also resisted arrest.

“A small prybar device to remove security tags was found in her purse.”  Meridy and Wichar were taken to the Lancaster County Jail and booked for theft by shoplifting, resisting arrest and obstructing a police officer.
