Husker Fans Facing High Prices for NY Pinstripe Bowl Game Trip

By Chase Porter Dec 9, 2024 | 3:47 PM

With the Huskers heading to New York this month to face off against Boston College in the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl, many Husker fans will be right behind them. A Lincoln travel expert says fans, when they see the prices for airfare and hotels, might ” swallow hard when they hear those numbers…”

According to Steve Glenn, Chairman of Executive Travel on 1212 “O” Street, plane ticket prices are ranging between $1,000-1,500 round trip from NE to the Big Apple.

The Husker game is set for Dec. 28th, sandwiched between Christmas and New Years, “…that’s the one of the busiest weeks of travel in the whole year,” said Glenn.

A bigger issue than exorbitant airfare prices for fans, might be finding a seat in general. Glenn says many planes are already completely full. This scarcity will raise prices for plane tickets and hotel rooms in-kind.

“There’s a lot of excitement for New York City, however, it’s tempered a little bit with the prices because of airfares. Hotels in New York City around this time are about double where they are everywhere else. So you’re seeing the two double whammy on some of those price points,” Glenn described.

Glenn says fan will have to balance affordability with proximity when booking their hotel.

“If you want to be in Times Square where all the action is… those rooms are extremely expensive. You can stay out by the airports or out by Yankee Stadium for less money. But, you go to New York City for New York City, not for an airport,” he said.

For fans planning to make the trip, Glenn encourages them to stay flexible and avoid procrastination.

“If you’re flexible when making your plans, you’ll get better pricing,” said Glenn. “The people that procrastinate are going to find themselves without options, especially the airfare side of things… if you’re planning on doing an airline ticket, things are closing up by the hour.”

If you’d like to hit “the easy button,” Glenn suggests going the route of purchasing a travel package. While it might be pricey, it will spare fans the stress of booking flights, hotels, and show tickets, etc.
