Dead Body Found in Genoa Prompts Homicide Investigation

Nance County Sheriff’s and Nebraska State Patrol are investigating a potential homicide after human remains were discovered in a wooded area near the Genoa City tree dump on Saturday, Nov. 23.

Deputies responded and found severely decomposed human remains in the area. As investigators began to suspect foul play, the Nebraska State Patrol was contacted to assist in the recovery of the remains and the investigation.

The scene was secured overnight. On the morning of Sunday, Nov. 24, State Patrol Investigators recovered the remains of one unidentified person. The cause of death is not known, neither is the identity of the deceased.

Due to advanced decomposition of the body, Nance County Sheriff’s are not able to provide a description of the deceased at this time.

The Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska State Patrol are working together on the investigation which is still on going.
