The Lancaster County Sheriff’s department will be taking part in the nationwide “Make It Click” campaign to promote awareness and increase the use of seat belts and child restraint systems. Chief Deputy Ben Houchin tells KLIN News the enforcement effort will run from November 23 through December 1.
“We’re going to have extra deputies out to make sure that drivers are driving at the speed limit, wearing their seat belts and not being distracted.” Houchin says the deputies will be in marked patrol cars during the evening hours.
“Thanksgiving time is one of the most highly traveled on the nation’s roadways and we just want to make sure that everybody is being careful out there, be patient and have a good time with their families during the Thanksgiving holiday.”
Overtime for the additional deputies working during the mobilization will be paid through a mini grant funded by the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.
