Reports of a small plane crash sent first responders rushing to the area of 112th and Raymond Road around 10:30 Thursday morning. “Checked the area and were unable to find anything resembling an sort of air emergency,” says Lancaster County Sheriff’s Captain John Vik.
He tells KLIN News the airplane was later located at a maintenance hangar at Lincoln Airport. “Our best guess is the emergency location transmitter was set off in error during some sort of maintenance procedure and that one of the satellites picked this up.”
Vik says he’s relieved this was not a real emergency. “This was a good chance for us to drill what otherwise would have been a very tragic incident, but we’re very happy that this one had a happy ending.”
