Lincoln Police Searching for Slippery Smirnoff Shoplifter, Hit-and-Run Driver

By Chase Porter Nov 20, 2024 | 6:00 AM

Lincoln Crime Stoppers is seeking the public’s help in identifying a man who stole a bottle of alcohol after smashing another at a grocery store and the driver of a work truck which struck a light pole, knocking it over.

The first case occurred around 8:30 p.m. on November 13, 2024, at the Super Saver on S. 56th and Nebraska Parkway.

Video Forensics Technician for the Lincoln Police Department Becky Keller says a man came into the store and concealed a bottle of Smirnoff down his pants.

This bottle broke and spilled alcohol inside his pants and onto the floor. He then concealed another bottle of Smirnoff in his pants and slipped and fell on the mess he made breaking the first bottle.

He left the store and got into a red SUV. Video of the incident and photos of the suspect can be viewed below.

The second case occurred around 8:45 a.m. on October 30, 2024, at the intersection of 33rd and Holdrege Street.

A witness waiting at the light reported a vehicle behind them swerved and slammed into a light pole on UNL’s East Campus, knocking it over.

The light pole was on the northeast corner of the intersection. The witness pulled over to assist the driver, but the the driver sped off.

The witness described the driver as a Hispanic male. He was driving a white work truck with a ladder rack over the bed of the truck. It had a dark colored tailgate, and is now going to have some significant damage to the front end.

Video and photos of the truck are available below.
