Lincoln Police will be taking a zero-tolerance approach to seat belt violations during the national Make-It-Click enforcement campaign that will run from November 23 through December 1. Public Information Officer Erika Thomas says according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation Nebraska’s seat belt use rate is the fourth worst in the nation at only 77%.

That’s compared to the national rate of 90.4%.  “In 2023, 138 of the 186 fatalities in passenger vehicle crashes in Nebraska were
not wearing seat belts, according to NDOT,” Thomas says.

As part of the enforcement effort additional officers will patrol Lincoln looking for those who are stopped and found to not be using seatbelts. The enforcement effort is made possible by a grant
from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.

“With Thanksgiving approaching and more holiday travelers expected on the roads, LPD urges drivers and passengers to buckle up,  every trip,  every time,” Thomas says.
