An Elmwood man is facing several charges following a pursuit in Sarpy County. An NSP spokesperson says on Thursday at approximately 4:35 p.m., NSP received a citizen report of a vehicle driving with a flat tire on eastbound Interstate 80 near Gretna.
The patrol says a short time later, a trooper located the Mazda 3 and the trooper initiated a traffic stop. As the trooper tried to contact the driver, the patrol says the driver turned the vehicle around and began fleeing westbound on the eastbound shoulder of I-80. The trooper then gave chase.
The vehicle traveled a short distance on the shoulder, struck a streetlight and eventually drove into a ditch. Troopers were able to then take the driver into custody without further incident. The entire pursuit lasted less than one minute.
32-year-old Steven Salinas was arrested for flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, driving under the influence and several traffic violations. He was transported to CHI Health Midlands Hospital for medical clearance and then booked into Sarpy County Corrections.
