In an effort to keep people from being alone on Thanksgiving, the People’s City Mission will be serving a full Thanksgiving meal to the homeless in Lincoln as well as anyone who would otherwise not have a place to go.
Doors will open at 11:00 and the food will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. The mission is expecting to serve around 700 meals. If you would like to help make the meal a reality the mission is accepting donations of frozen turkeys, baked pies, plus ingredients for side dishes.
Prepared side dishes are not being accepted. Donations can be dropped off at the Shelter at 110 Q St or at the Help Center at 6800 P St. by Wednesday, November 20. The Help Center will also be giving away 500 Thanksgiving meal baskets to those in need.
Giveaway will take place on Saturday, November 23rd, from 9:30am – 11:30am, or until supplies run out. This will be a drive through DRIVE THROUGH event, with staff and volunteers directing traffic for a smooth flow.
