Nebraska is the 10th most charitable state in America for 2025, according to recent WalletHub Study.
The latest World Giving Index shows that the United States is the sixth-most generous country in the world. U.S. donors gave nearly $560 billion to charity in 2023, with 67% of the funds coming directly from individuals, according to the Giving USA.
Drilling down on the numbers, Wallet Hub compared each state across 17 key indicators of charitable behavior to identify the most charitable areas of the country. The data set ranges from the volunteer rate to the share of income donated to the number of food banks per capita.
Wallet Hub Analyst Chip Lupo helped breakdown the numbers for KLIN. Nebraska ranked 16th in the amount of charities per capita, 11th in the percent of donated income, 6th in the percent of the population who donated time, also 6th in the percent of the population who collect/distribute food, 6th in terms of it’s volunteer rate, and 5th in volunteer hours per capita.
The state’s overall rank in volunteer & service was 4th in the nation… however, Nebraska ranked 41st in the amount of charitable giving. It appears Nebraskans are more willing to roll up their sleeves and donate their time and effort than they are with opening their pocketbook. Lupo says this might be due to a general skepticism of scam-charities — perhaps ripe in Nebraska, he says, due to a minimal amount of regulations for charitable institutions.
