The Food Bank of Lincoln is teaming up with local grocery stores for their annual Check Out Hunger and Holiday Food Drive campaigns. Chief Relationship Officer John Mabry tells KLIN News beginning November 1 there will be two ways you can support them.
“One is you can pull one of those $1, $5, or $10 tabs off at the checkout stand and add it to your total when you get your groceries.” Mabry says the other way is to purchase a pre-packed food bag that can be placed in the Food Bank barrels.”
He says you can also bring in your own food from home and drop it off. Mabry says more than 60,000 people in southeast Nebraska are food insecure. “With every $1 donated, the Food Bank of Lincoln can provide approximately two meals for neighbors facing hunger,” Mabry says. “This holiday season, you can give the gift of nourishing meals to neighbors experiencing food insecurity in your community.”
The stores participating are Hy-Vee, Leon’s, Russ’s Market, Super Saver and Open Harvest. Click here to see a list of our most-needed items.
