Gusty Winds Bring Back the Risk of Fire Danger

By Steven Hardesty Oct 28, 2024 | 7:04 AM

Above average temperatures and gusty winds will bring back the risk for fire danger early this week.

“The grasses are all dried out,” National Weather Service Meteorologist Brian Barjenbruch tells KLIN News. “The fields that are not yet harvested are all good and dry right now.

Barjenbruch adds today will be breezy but the real wind kicks in on Tuesday with Southwest Winds gusting 35-50 miles per hour. “The winds are really going to be moving and the air will be dry,” said Barjenbruch. “Any fires that start will spread rapidly. It’s good a good day to take a lot of care.”

Afternoon highs thru Tuesday will be 20 to 25 degrees above normal. By Tuesday afternoon we could be flirting with highs in the mid 80’s before cooling back to seasonable highs later in the week.

“A pretty good cold front will be coming through,” said Barjenbruch. “It will take us back into the 50’s by Thrusday.” There are some rain and thunderstorm chances, but the risk for severe weather is low.
