Seven Arrested in Theft From Business Destroyed by April Tornado

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department has arrested seven people for stealing items from the remains of the Garner Industries building destroyed by a tornado in late April.  “Wire, shelving, anything steel, anything copper, Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says.

“One of the biggest problems is it‘s dangerous in there.  There‘s a lot of sharp items and these individuals are going out there at night, it’s hard to see.” Houchin says there were no-trespassing signs and a fence around the property and a portion of the fence was torn down.

The suspects were arrested on a variety of charges, including  including trespassing, theft, possession of burglary tools and possession of methamphetamine, and driving under suspension. Deputies also cleared several outstanding warrants tied to the suspects.

“Garner Industries does not want people on their property and especially does not want them stealing from there,” Houchin says.
