New Lincoln Non-Profit Building Beds for Kids in Need

By Tom Stanton Oct 25, 2024 | 11:23 AM

It’s a problem many people in Lincoln aren’t aware of.  Connie Hilligoss is the development director for Sleep In Heavenly Peace and tells KLIN News there are eight thousand low income a and needy kids in Lincoln who don’t have one. ”

Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a volunteer driven organization with one mission in life and that is to help children who are sleeping on the floor in their homes to have a bed of their own to be safe and comfortable.”   Hilligoss says their first Build Day event will be November 16 and Lincoln firefighters will be building the first 20 beds.

“The beds are actually built out of wood by volunteers, who help cut the wood, stain it, put it together and then we have a team of volunteers who deliver and set them up in the home for children with a mattress, with bedding, ready to sleep on.”

Sleep in Heavenly Peace is currently serving children in 300 communities nationwide with Lincoln being the newest chapter.   She says volunteers, organizations and businesses are invited to sign up to make the beds. She says people of all ages, including children can show up and they will find a job for them.

If you are interested in volunteering or if you have a child in need of a bed click here. Hilligoss tells KLIN News the is hoping that through programs like this that support will begin to grow and they can ensure that no kids sleeps on the floor in our town.
