The 11th annual Good Life Halfsy through the streets of Lincoln on Sunday will be a record breaker. “We have 7,100 runners in the race this year. That’s the most we’ve ever had,” says race organizer Ben Cahoon.
“There are runners from 47 states and four countries coming to Lincoln this weekend to run in the race and that equals about a $3 million economic impact for the city of Lincoln.” He says 1,800 runners will be taking part in their first ever half marathon.
One runner will be looking to break a unique record. “He’s trying to win the Guinness Book of World Record for the fastest person in a mammal costume.” Cahoon says. Last year a Guinness record was set for the fastest half marathon while wearing a graduation cap and gown.
There will be 25 entertainment acts along the 13 mile course and 15,000 spectators are expected. It begins at 8:30 a.m. at Seacrest Field and will finish on Canopy Street in the Haymarket. Residents are advised to plan ahead for traffic delays, and are also invited to support the runners at four outdoor cheer stations located at Neighbors Park, Union Plaza, Innovation Campus and Haymarket Park.
