Lincoln Soup Kitchen Matching Donations 1-for-1 Through Dec. 31

By Chase Porter Oct 23, 2024 | 4:17 PM

The season of giving is upon us, and donations to a central Lincoln soup kitchen will stretch even further, giving the generous more bang for their buck.

Now through December 31st, donations made to Community Action’s Gathering Place soup kitchen will be matched $1 for $1, thanks to lead sponsor Acklie Charitable Foundation and other generous sponsors.

The Gathering Place soup kitchen first opened its doors in 1982 at 1448 “E” Street, and now serves an average of 34,000 meals annually to those who face hunger in Lincoln.

Over the last 12-months, that number has increased by 52% to over 55,000 free meals served.

“We have broken all our records of serving at the Gathering Place this year,” said Community Action CEO Heather Loughman. “Community support generated through this campaign makes this work possible.”

This season, the organization’s goal is to fundraise $225,000 by December 31st.

Anyone is welcome to get a free, nutritious meal from 5 to 6 p.m. daily — no questions asked.

“For many of our guests, the Gathering Place is the one place they can consistently rely on for good food and kind company,” said Lisa Janssen, Community Action’s Gathering Place Administrator.
