Explosive Devices Spark Grass Fire in East Lincoln

By Tom Stanton Oct 21, 2024 | 12:35 PM

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an explosive situation near 98th and Pioneers Friday night.  Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says they and Southeast Rural Fire responded to the scene around 11:00 and found some grass on fire.

“After the fire was put out, it was learned that several homemade explosive devices were used to start the fire,” Houchin says.  “It was a pretty big explosion and this act was stupid.  It could have caused another huge fire, it’s not that far from Lincoln.”

Houchin says fortunately the wind was not blowing as hard so the fire didn’t spread like recent field fires.  He wants anyone who has information to call the sheriff’s department at 402-441-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
