Child on Scooter Struck By Vehicle Near Middle School

By Tom Stanton Oct 18, 2024 | 2:11 PM

An Irving Middle School student was struck by a vehicle while riding a scooter near 22nd and Lake just before 9:00 Friday morning.  Lincoln Police say the 12-year-old boy was taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Irving principal Rachael Kluck-Spann sent a message to parents saying someone called the school to let them know so they could contact the family. “Our administrators immediately went to assist. The student was taken to the hospital and we are in touch with the family,” Kluck-Spann says.

“Our thoughts are with the student and all involved. We will work to support those impacted.”   Kluck-Spann also told parents that their child may or may not have information about the accident, which happened after school had already begun for the day.

“If your child needs extra support, please contact us at school so we can connect them with a staff member, including counselors, social workers, psychologists, bilingual liaisons and student advocates.

Lincoln Police are still investigating the circumstances of the crash.
