The Nebraska women’s basketball team will open the 2024-25 season as No. 23 team in the country according to the Associated Press after the news service released its first rankings of the season Tuesday.

The Huskers are one of six Big Ten teams in the national rankings. Big Ten newcomers USC and UCLA are ranked third and fifth, respectively. The Trojans were selected as the preseason favorite in the Big Ten’s preseason women’s basketball poll. South Carolina was selected as preseason No. 1, followed by UConn. Texas rounds out the top five at fourth.

Ohio State is ranked 14th, while Maryland is 18th. Indiana is 25th to round out the six ranked Big Ten teams. Iowa, Illinois and Michigan State were all listed just outside the top 25 as other teams receiving votes.

Nebraska takes the floor for the first time for a game for an exhibition game against Doane Oct. 27.
