A Lincoln man accused of ramming five Lancaster County and Nebraska State Patrol cruisers following a dangerous pursuit in Waverly Tuesday afternoon is facing several charges. LSO Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says around noon a woman was at the U-Save Pharmacy on Highway 6 and reported that 34-year-old Trenton Engel had threatened her.
He says deputies spotted Engel near his house in a Dodge flatbed pickup. Attempts to stop Engel were unsuccessful and he took off. LSO Deputies and Nebraska State Patrol troopers gave chase as Engel drove east on Highway 6.
LSO says stop sticks flattened one of the tires and the truck and caused it to spin out. Houchin says several cruisers surrounded the truck, but Engel began to ram them, causing a lot of damage. “It put our guys in danger and he is very dangerous and he doesn’t care about other people’s safety, he cares about himself it appears, and it’s good that he’s off the street at this point in time.”
