Two teenagers not old enough to drive are in trouble with the law after a car was stolen Tuesday morning in north Lincoln. LPD Public Information Officer Erika Thomas says officers responded to a home near Portia and Knox Streets around 7:45 a.m. regarding a locked vehicle that had been stolen overnight.
Thomas says officers found the 2012 red Kia Optima Tuesday night about a mile away near N. 15th Street and Hilltop Road. “While in the area, they observed two males enter the vehicle wearing gloves and masks.” Police contacted the pair and both began to run. Officers were able to detain and arrest them after a foot chase.
A 15-year-old boy was referred for theft by receiving and other charges. A 14-year-old was referred and released for failure to comply.
