No one was hurt after fire broke out in the U-Pull-It salvage yard near 70th and Fletcher late Tuesday morning. “They had their compactor machine on fire,” says LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman. “Something had ignited in it and caused it to spread to the scrap material around it.”
The fire produced a lot of smoke and firefighters had trouble getting water to the scene because their was no water hydrant on the property. She says two extra engines provided 1,200 feet of hose to connect to a hydrant on the street.
She says crews were then able to get the fire put out quickly. The damage to the metal compactor baler is being added up and there were no injuries.
