LPD Participating in Pink Patch Project in October

By Tom Stanton Sep 30, 2024 | 3:50 PM
For the first time ever the Lincoln Police Department is taking part in the Pink Patch Project to help raise money and awareness during Breast Cancer Awareness starting Tuesday.  “We are selling shoulder patches to the public to raise funds with all proceeds going to the Heartland Cancer Foundation,” says LPD Captain Max Hubka.
“Our overall hope is to make this a conversation piece to help to drive more discussion and more awareness.” LPD is working with First Responders Foundation Lincoln to coordinate the campaign.  The Heartland Cancer Association is a local non-profit that provides financial assistance to cancer patients undergoing treatment in our community.
“We believe that no cancer patient should fall behind on treatment because they struggle o afford everyday expenses,” says HCF Chris Blum.  He says they help 350 cancer patients a year in Nebraska.
Their grant amount is $750 per patient and helps them cover their mortgage, car payments, utilities and travel to and from treatment.  The pink patches are $10 each and can be purchased at the Hall of Justice and at all three LPD team substations through October or while supplies last.
