A Lincoln Police officer suffered a broken finger while trying to place a suspected drunk driver into a cruiser early Wednesday morning.  Officers responded to an alarm at the Kwik Shop near Touzalin Avenue and Fremont Street just before 1:00.

Officers determined it was a false alarm, but they spotted 30-year-old Adam Schmidt in his vehicle and determined the license plates were fictitious.  “A DUI investigation was initiated during which Schmidt was uncooperative and attempted to reenter his vehicle,” says LPD Captain Todd Kocian.

“Schmidt was taken into custody and struggled with officers. Schmidt was placed in the rear seat of the cruiser and began kicking the door.”  Kocian says as officers tried to put Schmidt’s legs in the vehicle, the officers’ left pinky finger became entangled in Schmidt’s clothing causing it to fracture.

Schmidt was arrested in booked for terroristic threats and cited for 3rd degree assault on an officer, DUI 2nd offense, refusal to submit to a chemical test, resisting arrest and obstructing a police officer.
