BBQ strikes back… Again!
Branched Oak Observatory in Raymond, Nebraska (14300 NW 98th St.) will look like a galaxy far, far away this Saturday, Sept. 28, for the 10th Annual Fall Star-B-Q.
BBQ (and other) food trucks, live music, and the 501st Legion- Central Garrison (a Star Wars anachronism group) will be roaming the grounds starting at 5 PM.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their cameras (and lightsabers) as costumed members of the Rebel Legion and Mandalorian Mercs will be on hand to keep Stormtroopers and other Star Wars villains in check, calling a ceasefire for fan photos.
Young padawan’s interested in astronomy will be able to enjoy space-crafts, science demonstrations with the UNL Society of Physics Students, an opportunity to hold a real meteorite, and a special NASA Exhibit in the Kunkel Family Multipurpose Center. Outside in the field there will be a play area with Blackhole (a spin on cornhole), bolo-ladder golf, and a giant moon map.
Sadly, no cantina-style bebop this year, as Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes double booked their Saturday, opting for their original gig at Chalmun’s Spaceport Cantina. So the ‘Last Minute Band’ will be playing your favorite classic rock jams from 5-8PM.
Once dark, the Observatory will hold a night sky viewing with telescopes. Star gazers will have the opportunity to see the Planet Saturn, The Ring Nebula, the Andromeda Galaxy, and more.
Admission to the Fall Star-B-Q event is $5 per person, and $20 for family +4. Dinner, raffle tickets, and gift shop items, require an optional purchase. Admission is free after 8:30 for the public star party.
