Lincoln Crime Stoppers is seeking the public’s help in identifying two trespassers who posed as residential assistants in a UNL dorm and the suspect involved in a vehicle theft in northeast Lincoln.

The first case occurred on September 6, 2024, around 6:30 p.m. on UNL’s East Campus.

Video Forensics Technician for the Lincoln Police Department Becky Keller says multiple students in a dorm building reported two men were knocking on their doors, pretending to be residential assistants, stating they needed to go into their room to conduct “room checks.”

The men were stopped by the real residential assistant, who was nearby and confronted them, asking them to leave.

They left in the white Chevy pickup truck with a sticker on the middle of the back window.

Lincoln Crime Stoppers is sharing this case on behalf of UNLPD, who are trying to understand what the intention was of these two. Photos of the suspect and their vehicle are available below.

The second case occurred on September 12, 2024, near 84th and Holdrege Street.

A nearby resident called police in the morning to report her vehicle, a 2016 Hyundai Elantra, had been stolen overnight from it’s parking space. Investigating officers found debris in the empty parking spot, believed to be from breaking the door lock to gain access to the vehicle.

The person of interest arrived in a dark colored Jeep Grand Cherokee, with multiple passengers.

Lincoln Police believe this theft was likely apart of the social media “Kia Boyz” trend where certain Hyundai and Kia models are targeted for theft because they are able to be started without the key.

If you have a 2011-2022 Hyundai or Kia and you’re concerned about your vehicle being stolen, Lincoln Police encourages you to contact Hyundai or Kia to see if you are eligible for a free steering wheel lock or a software update that could help keep your vehicle safe.

Photos of the vehicle the suspect arrived in are available below.

If you have information on either of these cases, contact Lincoln Police at (402) 441-6000 to speak with an officer, or make an anonymous report to Crime Stoppers at (402) 475-3600. An anonymous tip can be left online through lincolncrimestoppers.com
