It will look like a major disaster on the west side of Lincoln Airport on Wednesday. Public Information Officer Rachel Barth says they will be holding a full scale emergency exercise from 4-7 p.m. She says the scenario will be a collision between a commercial and military aircraft.
“There is a threat of fuel spilling, fire injuries, potential fatalities. It really is a worse case scenario.” Barth says area emergency response agencies will be taking part in the exercise along with local hospitals, military personnel and a airline officials.
Students from Union Adventist University will be made up to look like accident victims. “Our combined goal is to exercise community emergency response plans and capabilities so the
Lincoln Airport and supporting entities are best prepared to handle worst-case scenarios related to the traveling public,” Barth says.
She says the public may see an increased number of emergency fire and police vehicles in the area. The exercise will be conducted from 4:00 p.m. to around 7:00 p.m.
