There was a special anniversary celebration in Lincoln on Tuesday as CHI Health St. Elizabeth Hospital turned 135 years old.  It became Lincoln’s first general hospital back in 1889.  It was founded by the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration and today St. Elizabeth is a full-service, 260-bed, non-profit regional medical center.

“When you think about the miracles that have occurred and the lives that were touched just in 135 years of service, it’s incredible,” Hospital president Tyler DeJong says. “We’ve been able to serve the community as it has grown and evolved.”

St. Elizabeth specializes in the treatment areas of newborn and pediatric care, women’s health, burn and wound, cardiology, oncology, emergency medicine, orthopedics and neuroscience.

CHI Health St. Elizabeth has been designated as a Magnet organization four times by the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program.  The prestigious designation recognizes excellence in nursing services.

An anniversary celebration was held at the hospital Tuesday afternoon and included a picnic for all staff and guests.  Tables were also set up that included decades of photos and a public history presentation.
