Lincoln police say a 33-year-old man left behind a trail of destruction early Monday morning. It started around 12:45 a.m. near NW 55th and West Paul Street. “A 27-year-old woman was inside her residence when she heard a loud noise outside,” says Captain Todd Kocian.
“She reviewed her Ring doorbell video and observed a silver truck strike two other vehicles then leave the scene southbound on NW 55th Street.” Kocian says about 30 minutes later officers responded to the Burlington Northern Railyard near 8th and West ‘O’ Street on the report of a silver truck that had driven on the railroad tracks and became disabled.
“Arriving officers found a silver Ford F250 pickup with heavy damage and two tires had come off the rims,” Kocian says. Police found 33-year-old Zachary Scully in the driver’s seat. BNSF employees found damage to the tracks from the truck driving on them. “The disabled truck also blocked a train line causing two of their tracks to be shut down, which delayed their normal operations,” Kocian says.
Police conducted a DUI investigation after Scully showed signs of impairment. A breath test showed Scully’s BAC as .137. He was arrested for first offense DUI and Resisting Arrest. Scully was also cited and released for obstructing a police officer, possession of marijuana, driving under suspension, leaving the scene and reckless driving.
Kocian says a Ford Escape struck in the hit and run was totaled and a 2024 Infinity G35 sustained $6,000 damage.
