Presidential Candidates Announced for Nebraska’s General Election Ballot

By Chase Porter Sep 11, 2024 | 6:00 AM

Five candidates will be vying for Nebraskans’ votes in the race for the 47th President of the United States this November.

Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evnen released the list of candidates, along with their respective vice-presidential candidate, that have either been nominated by their respective party or have completed statewide petitions to appear on the ballot.

As expected, former President Donald Trump and Ohio Senator JD Vance will represent the Republican Party, while Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz will be the Democratic Party’s nominees.

Political activist Chase Oliver and businessman Mike ter Maat will be running for president/vice-president representing the Libertarian Party. Scholar and political activist Cornel West and civic leader Melina Abdullah will be representing the Legal Marijuana NOW Party.

Green Party nominees Jill Stein (President) and Samson Kpadenou (VP) will appear on the ballot via petition.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. successfully petitioned onto the ballot, but on September 9, 2024, he withdrew his name from the ballot.

Indian-American entrepreneur Shiva Ayyadurai collected enough signatures to appear on the ballot, however Evnen says his filing was rejected because he is “undisputedly not a natural-born citizen” – a requirement to be President of the United States pursuant to Article II, Section 1, Clause 5 of the U.S. Constitution.

By law, the Secretary of State certify candidates and ballot measures on or before September 13.
