A 9/11 Remembrance Event was held outside the Lincoln Fire and Rescue station at 18th and Q Street Wednesday morning. “We are here today because we made a vow to never forget,” says LFR Fire Chief Dave Engler.
“We want to honor and remember the firefighters, police and port authority officers who gave their lives in service on 9/11.” The ceremony included a combined Lincoln-Lancaster County Honor Guard presentation, The singing of the National Anthem and a moment of silence for the nearly 3,000 people who were killed in the terrorist attacks.

Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird spoke during the ceremony and reflected on the 23rd anniversary of the attacks. “Even though 23 years have passed, here in Lincoln we are committed to honoring our fallen heroes and first responders.”
Gaylor Baird also said this remembrance event serves as a powerful reminder to act, serve and love our neighbors. “Let’s resolve to remain united as Americans, as Patriots, as Lincolnites and to take care of each other today and everyday.

Another 9/11 Remembrance ceremony was held at the Veterans Memorial Garden in Antelope Park. A wreath was placed at the Post 9/11 Monument. It recognizes those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks as well as those who responded to the attacks on that day and since.
The names on the Post 9/11 Monument were also read.
