Lincoln Police say a man took matters into his own hands when he spotted two men trying to steal his car around 1:30 Tuesday morning. LPD Public Information Officer Erika Thomas says the man told police two men tried to steal a vehicle from his driveway and broke the driver’s side door handle to get inside.
The victim yelled “Freeze” at the suspects and fired three rounds toward them using a .40 caliber Glock. “Two rounds were located inside the interior wall of the front passenger door,” Thomas says. It’s not known if the third round hit either suspect.
“They exited the vehicle through the passenger side, jumped over a fence and ran north,” Thomas says. The suspects are both described as 6′ to 6’2″, 18-25 years old, thin build wearing all black. One had a red shirt underneath.
Damage to the door handle and steering column is estimated at $2,000. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information or video of the incident is asked to call Lincoln Police at 402-441-6000 or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
