15-Year-Old Critically Wounded in Omaha High School Shooting

By Tom Stanton Sep 10, 2024 | 3:19 PM

Omaha Police say a Northwest High School student was shot inside the school over the noon hour.   “The victim of the shooting was a 15-year-old male,”  OPD Deputy Chief Sherie Thomas said during an afternoon briefing.  “The victim was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.”

She says the shooting appears to be an isolated incident between students.  The suspected shooter was arrested several block from the school.   Thomas says the school resource officer reported the shooting around 12:25 and the school immediately went into lockdown.

That was lifted following the arrest of the suspect.    Nebraska U-S Congressman Don Bacon released this statement following the incident. “We are saddened and angered about the shooting at Omaha Northwest High School and pray for the student’s recovery.  Thanks to the first responders who swiftly tended to the victim’s needs and apprehended the suspect,” Bacon said.

At this time, it is premature to say what actions should be taken as we don’t know how the suspect obtained the weapon, where it happened, etc.”
