It was a serendipitous day for the newly anointed University of Nebraska systems President Dr. Jeffrey Gold.

Gold’s investiture as the 9th President of NU took place Thursday, September 5, 2024 — exactly 10 years to the day after he was installed as UNMC chancellor and five years to the day after he was installed as UNO chancellor.

The theme of Gold’s formal installation ceremony hosted in the Nebraska State Capitol rotunda was “From Excellent to Extraordinary.”

Numerous prominent Nebraska officials were present at the ceremony. Regent Rob Schafer of Beatrice, chairman of the NU Board of Regents, presided over the ceremony. Gov. Jim Pillen and U.S. Sen. Deb Fischern also offered remarks, congratulating Gold.

Dr. Gold technically began his tenure as president on July 1, following a decade as chancellor of the University of Nebraska Medical Center that also included service as chancellor of the University of Nebraska at Omaha and executive vice president and provost for the NU system.

Investitures are long-held academic traditions meant to bring a community together to celebrate a new leader. The ceremony included an academic procession of faculty and staff, as well as musical selections performed by University of Nebraska talent.
