Lincoln Police took a pair of teenagers into custody after a car was reported stolen in southwest Lincoln around 8:30 Sunday morning. Public Information Officer Erika Thomas says officers responded to the area of S. Coddington and W. Van Dorn to investigate a stolen 2020 Kia Optima.
“Officers spotted the vehicle nearby in the Bison Park parking lot, but it drove off when a traffic stop was initiated,” Thomas says. It was later found abandoned on N. 4th Street between Adams and Nance.
“The occupants ran off and officers chased them on foot,” Thomas says. “They were taken into custody with the help of NSP Air Wing.” The 15-year-old driver was booked and referred for theft by receiving, operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest and resisting arrest.
The 14-year-old passenger was booked and referred for accessory to a felony.
