No. 2 Nebraska Volleyball fought through two hotly contested sets to beat TCU 25-15, 25-23, 23-25, 25-13 Saturday night at the Devaney Center in the Huskers’ second match of the Ameritas Players’ Challenge. The victory completed a 3-0 opening week for the Huskers in which they won nine of 11 sets.
The first and fourth sets were solid for Nebraska, as they hit .292 in the first and .417 in the finale. But in the middle two, the Horned Frogs’ defense challenged the Huskers as NU hit just .140 while splitting sets two and three.
Harper Murray turned in her best work of the season with 20 kills. Rebekah Allick capped a big week with seven kills and a team-leading six blocks, while Merritt Beason and Andi Jackson both tallied eight kills and four blocks each.
Nebraska’s biggest advantage was at the service line, where the Huskers scored nine aces while not allowing TCU to tally a single one. Six different NU players scored from the service line. Lindsay Krause, Merritt Beason ad Kennedi Orr tallied two aces each.
The Horned Frogs (1-1) were led by Melanie Parra, who had 14 kills.
Nebraska returns to the court Tuesday for a match at SMU. First serve is slated for 7 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 6 p.m. on B-107.3 FM.
