Blood Drive Honoring Fallen LPD Officer Mario Herrera Set for Sept. 5

By Chase Porter Aug 31, 2024 | 4:16 PM

August 26 marked four years since Investigator Mario Herrera was shot in the line of duty. He ultimately passed away from his injuries 12 days later on September 7, 2020. During his hospitalization, Herrera received several blood transfusions which extended his life before succumbing to his injuries.

The Lincoln Police Department will honor Herrera’s memory with the 12 DAYS OF HOPE blood drive in partnership with the Nebraska Community Blood Bank and Lincoln Fire & Rescue.

A blood mobile will parked right outside LPD headquarters on 9th and “K” Street from 8 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 5, accepting donations.

You can sign up for a donation time slot at ncbbherohub.club.

If you are unable to donated that day, LPD encourages community members to donate blood at one of NCBB’s four donor centers in Lincoln and Omaha throughout September in honor of the 9/11 Day of Service. Use the code word “SERVICE” when scheduling a donation time through your Hero Hub profile.
