By Chase Porter Aug 29, 2024 | 2:00 PM

A Seward woman was killed after her SUV crashed into a tractor on a county road Thursday morning.

Seward County deputies were called to 238th Road and Old Mill Road around 8 a.m. Thursday, August 22, on a report of an SUV vs tractor collision.

Crash investigators believe the tractor was traveling eastbound on Old Mill Road and the SUV was traveling westbound on Old Mill Road. The tractor turned north at the intersection and collided with the SUV.

65-year-old Cidric L. Beckler of Seward was the driver of the tractor. She was uninjured and immediately went to the aid of the SUV driver, 34-year-old Jamie E. Calmus of Seward.

Calmus was transported to Seward Memorial Hospital and later transported to Bryan West Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased. The SUV was occupied by three (3) juvenile children who were treated and released at the scene with no injuries.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident. Seatbelts and restraints were properly used in the SUV.

Garland Fire and Rescue, Seward Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol, and Seward County Roads Department assisted on scene. The accident is being investigated by the Seward County Sheriff’s Office and Nebraska State Patrol.

The Seward County Sheriff’s Office and staff offer condolences to all family and friends affected by Thursday’s tragedy.
