LPD officers and Lincoln Fire and Rescue crews were called to the April Sampson Cancer Center at 40th and Tiger Lily Road around 1:45 Wednesday afternoon following a rollover crash. According to Lincoln Police a patient receiving treatment left the center and that he was coherent.
According to the police report, witnesses saw the driver pull out of the parking lot at a high rate of speed and collide with a tree, median and two small trees. The car then struck the building and scraped the wall as it continued to move.
The vehicle then struck a metal water meter and another tree before rolling. Police say the Mazda eventually came to a stop and the driver was unconscious. According to LPD a witness said the car appeared to be ‘driving itself” because they could not see the driver.
The driver was taken to Bryan West for treatment. Damage to the building is estimated at $20,000.
