The City of Lincoln has a warm weekend ahead.
National Weather Service (NWS) Meteorologist Michaela Wood tells KLIN News, after a small chance of showers/thunderstorms Friday into Saturday morning, “that’ll clear up into a pretty warm weekend.”
Lincoln will be in a heat advisory from 1 p.m. Saturday to 8 p.m. Sunday, with heat index values up to 109° expected.
“On Saturday, we’ll be in the 92 to 95 degree range, but the heat index values or that ‘feels like’ temperature will likely exceed 100, maybe even get near 105 degrees on Saturday,” Wood said. “Then we’ll warm up a little bit more on Sunday, with air temperatures likely around 97-98 degrees. But even with a nice breeze, those ‘feels like’ temperatures could climb around 105 to 107 degrees.
NWS says hot temperatures and high humidity this weekend carries the risk of causing heat related illnesses. People who will be outdoors this weekend are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room when possible, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
However, Wood says this mini-heatwave will be short lived.
“We’ll have a front pass through at the start of next week that’ll cool things down a little bit. Monday will be still a little bit warm backing off from Sunday, but we’ll really start cooling down Tuesday and into next week,” she said.
