Progress is being made on building a new 1,500-bed state prison in Lincoln. Governor Pillen has announced that ground will be broken on the new facility north of I-80 near 70th Street on Wednesday.
The prison will be built on 300 acres of land and will replace the Nebraska State Penitentiary. Pillen will be joined by Nebraska Department of Correctional Services Director Rob Jeffreys and other NDCS leaders.
The groundbreaking will begin at 11:00.
