A continuing road work project along Leighton Avenue will enter it’s final phase of construction this Monday, August 26.
The last step of the improvement project will close Leighton Ave. between 48th and 56th streets. This work is scheduled to be completed by early November.
The recommended detour here is 48th Street to Holdrege or Adams streets to 70th Street.
Road work continues on Leighton between 68th and 70th streets, but this segment is scheduled to reopen Saturday, August 31. The stretch of the project from 56th and 63rd streets is scheduled to be complete in September 20.
Work elements of the Leighton project include:
- Mill and overlay of existing surfaces and base repairs where required
- Concrete pavement repair
- Removal and replacement of asphalt paving
- Curb and curb ramp replacements
- Inlet top replacements
- Installation of a pedestrian crossing ‘Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon.’
