A 12-year-old Pound Middle School student was struck by a car while walking to school Friday morning. LPD Public Information Officer Erika Thomas says just before 7:45 a.m. two vehicles collided at the intersection of S. 48th Street and Claire Avenue.
The crash happened less than a mile from the school. Thomas says a box truck was traveling north on 48th when a car failed to yield “After the impact, the car slid through the intersection into a 12-year-old child waiting at the crosswalk.”
Thomas says the girl sustained a minor leg injury, but was able to walk to the ambulance. “She was taken to the hospital to be evaluated. The school district has had contact with her family and she’s doing okay.”
The investigation is continuing.
