Lincoln Police have made a second arrest in connection with a deadly shooting in the parking lot of Russ’s Market at South Coddington and West ‘A’ Street last month. The LPD SWAT Team served a warrant at the home of 20-year-old Kaeylab Gonzales on Wednesday morning and took him into custody.
He was booked for first degree murder, use of a weapon to commit a felony, possession of a firearm by an unlawful person and unlawful discharge of a firearm. Police have not said what specific role Gonzales played in the homicide.
Investigators say 25-year-old Francisco Alvis was shot and killed on July 5 around 10:00 p.m. Captain Ben Miller says through their investigation it was determined that Alvis was meeting 20-year-old Ge’Auvieon Crayton of Lincoln to sell marijuana.
He says they interviewed witnesses and reviewed surveillance video from the scene. That video showed Alvis meeting Crayton in the parking lot where the two sat in Alvis’ white pickup truck.
Miller says Alvis was then shot several times.
“Alvis ran to a maroon Jeep that had arrived in the parking lot and held onto the driver’s side door as it drove away. He let go near the intersection of West ‘A’ and S. Folsom where witnesses found him.” Alvis was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
“He was located with a fully loaded 9mm handgun that was on ‘safe’ and no live round in the chamber,” Miller says. “Crayton exited Alvis’s vehicle and drove off in a silver Jeep, the same vehicle he arrived in.”
Crayton was charged with first-degree murder and gun offenses.
