Lincoln Police have released new details in a deadly crash near the Warhorse Casino just before 1:00 Sunday morning. Public Information Officer Erika Thomas identified the man killed as 25-year-old Rico Benavidez of Crete.
She says a preliminary investigation determined that a Toyota GR86 was driving westbound on West Denton Road near 1st Street. “The driver turned the vehicle to the left to avoid a pedestrian in the road and then collided with a second person.
Benavidez was taken to a Lincoln hospital where he was pronounced dead. Thomas says Benavidez was not in a crosswalk. The driver remained at the scene and no citations have been issued. The investigation is continuing.
