The storms that hit Lincoln late Wednesday afternoon took down a lot of trees and branches, disrupted power and snarled traffic. Almost all parts of the city had damage to some extent. Lincoln Electric had over 60,000 customers affected at one point with over 6,000 still without service as of 5:30 Thursday morning.
As the storms moved east, power was disrupted for thousands in the Omaha area and power was out to the water well pumps serving the City of Lincoln. “The City is asking that community members immediately stop all outdoor water use and voluntarily reduce indoor water use until further notice.”
Downed trees or power lines affecting traffic can be reported to Lincoln Police at 402-441-6000. For other damage to other public trees between the curb and sidewalk, contact the Parks and Recreation Community Forestry Section at 402-441-7847, Ext. 0. Residents can also report damage to street trees at UPLNK.lincoln.ne.gov or by using the UPLNK app.
Residents are also advised to watch for broken limbs that may still be hanging in trees. These can cause injury or damage when they fall.
