Two Nebraska State Senators have sent a letter to the Lincoln/Lancaster County Railroad Transportation Safety District urging the installation of railroad crossing monitors along the Burlington Northern Santa Fe rail line corridor in South Lincoln.
The technology would provide residents and first responders with the ability to view blocked crossings in real-time. “This technology has been in use in other communities for some time, and we believe first responders and residents of our community deserve the same opportunity and protection,” says Senator Carolyn Bosn.
Senator Elliot Bostar says his office frequently receives calls from constituents worried about the increased rail traffic on the BNSF line through South Lincoln. “Installing railroad crossing monitoring technology will help residents and first responders adjust their routes and potentially save lives.”
