Two cats were safely rescued after a south Lincoln house fire, Thursday afternoon.
The blaze broke out after an outdoor air conditioning unit malfunctioned at a home near South 32nd and “D” Street. LFR spokeswoman MJ Lierman said crews responded to the fire around 2 p.m. and had water on the fire within 5 minutes of arriving.
“There was no occupants reported home at the time, we did a search and did bring out 2 felines,” said Lierman. “They were doing well and we turned them over to animal control shortly after.”
There was significant water and smoke damage to the home, totaling about $75,000. The house was deemed uninhabitable and the residents are being assisted with relocation by the Red Cross.
No firefighters were injured.
“We were happy to have the cats rescued,” said Lierman.
